According to a reporter in Mexico, the Mexican Ministry of Tourism (Sectur) informed 54 beaches and 3 docks that won the "Blue Flag" international award (the Blue Flag) of the European Environmental Education Organization (FEE), The country currently ranks first in the Americas in the field and 13th in the world.
Sectur Humberto Hernandez Haddad, Deputy Head of Quality and Tourism Regulation, said that this is a record number and this achievement was achieved thanks to the close coordination between many government organizations aimed at fulfilling the criteria for clean, safe, service, education and environmental information set by FEE, as well as the criteria for promoting and developing the "smokeless" industry of Mexico.
According to Mr. Haddad, Baja California Sur State near the border with neighboring America is the locality with the most "Blue Flag" award beaches in Mexico with 20 beaches and 1 marina; In addition, Quintana Roo, one of the key tourist destinations with 12 award-winning beaches.
With the advantage of bordering the Pacific and Atlantic oceans, Mexico has a rich heritage of islands, one of its tourism strengths.
According to data from Sectur, marine tourism currently accounts for 64.6% of the income of the "smokeless" industry, which annually contributes billions of dollars to the second largest economy in this Latin American and Caribbean region.
Mexico is currently ranked 6th in the list of the most attractive countries for tourists. In 2018, the country welcomed 41,447 million international visitors with revenue of 22.51 billion USD, an increase of 5% in passengers and 6% in revenue compared to the previous year.
The United States and Canada are the two markets that contribute the highest number of tourists to Mexico, accounting for 72.5% of the total number of international visitors to the country.
