The Xinhua News Agency quoted the Chinese government’s August 14 announcement that the Yangtze, the longest river in the East Asian nation, welcomed the fourth flood this year in the upstream area after a heavy rainfall.

The high water level on the branches of the Yangtze resulted in floodwaters coming in, rapidly increasing the water level in the Tam Gorges dam reservoir.

At 5:00 a.m. on August 14, the above reservoir witnessed an inflow of 50,900 cubic meters per second. According to the Truong Giang Water Resources Commission, this figure is expected to increase to 59,000 m3 / second today.

The Chinese government urged the provinces and cities along the Yangtze River to mobilize resources to prepare for the floods.

According to China Daily , Chinese officials estimated that this year’s floods affected about 63.5 million people in the country, causing damage of 25.8 billion USD. The death or missing number is 219. About 54,000 houses were destroyed by the floods.

According to CGTN , this year’s flood season in China appeared on June 1 with great frequency, causing the water level in many rivers and lakes to rise.

Across China, a total of 634 rivers have had water levels exceeding the warning threshold, of which 194 rivers have crossed the safety threshold and 53 rivers have recorded a record increase.
