Police Angel Reinosa, a 21-year-old patrol student, is going to his car in the parking lot and is shot. The crime scene is right at the sight of Sheriff Lancaster.
Reinosa wore a bulletproof vest and was not seriously injured, he was transferred to a local hospital for treatment.
Immediately after the shooting, the police were eagerly searching for suspects and evacuating people near the scene. However, up to now, the suspect has not been arrested.
According to CNN , during the press conference on August 21, Mayor Lancaster Rex Parris called the gunman in this case a sniper. And Reinosa police thanks to wearing bulletproof vests so they escaped death. The bullet seemed to fly from a four-story building across the street.
A day later, investigators confirmed they had found and seized an airgun in one of the apartments they ransacked.
The owner of the place where the gun was found said the authorities ransacked his apartment and seized an air gun that he said was an acting tool.
"As soon as I started (ransacking), I told them that I acted as a cop in the movie and on TV. And I had an airgun," the landlord named Kent McGuire said. "They went in and searched. And they tore up the whole apartment, turned things around."
McGuire was questioned. He said that the investigator told him that they suspected the deputy police could be shot with a BB gun.
McGuire said that in addition to air guns, he had a short rifle but no BB.
It is unclear whether the gun is slightly seized from where McGuire is the gun that caused the crime.
The shooting made the people near the area terrified, they thought about a mass shooting.
"Please find the culprit," said one resident. "Because that puts the whole community at risk. We have children, families and parents here."
Reports showed a screaming near the police station when the incident occurred.
