Pocket tips for you when traveling to Cuba
Malecon Square in Havana

The country is peaceful

The situation of social security in this country is quite good, different from some warnings on the internet as careful where crowded people carry their belongings, papers, or should not go alone on the night ... Where I live in central Havana with many clubs and bars, so there are quite a lot of men and women playing all night. Two times in the early morning, I went to the street to meet some girls smoking, standing and chatting, seemingly from last night until now, but everything was fine.

Usually at the end of the afternoon around the Malecon square, there are police and guard dog guards, but that does not mean that I am insecure. At night, I often walk alone on Havana’s coastal road, the street is very deserted but absolutely nothing "dangerous" that visitors have to worry about.

At opening hours in commercial centers, banks , supermarkets, shops, Cuban people lined up, they turn in according to the instructions of the staff here. I try to line up inside like everyone else and understand why the supermarkets and shops don’t let people enter at the same time, just because the area is not enough, inside is air-conditioned, outdoor is hot with The temperature is quite high. In supermarkets, ice cream shops, people do not take long time, make room for the next person to come in, do not talk loudly, do not make noise.

Like the United States and other countries, on the streets of Havana I sometimes see beggars, but they sit in a place that doesn’t bother anyone.

Taxi drivers, tourist cars in front of Malecon Square and several other attractions, they only offer polite visitors, clear prices, no clinging, no discomfort to visitors. Along the park the fortress El Morro, the street is clean, some people play chess on campus ...

Friendly, enthusiastic and kind

Cuban people are always friendly, only a small obstacle is that they do not communicate in English. Sometimes I asked for directions and they were happy, enthusiastically instructing me by giving me a sign, or writing, drawing on paper for me to find. Visiting shops selling souvenirs, watching boredom, holding up, dropping down, not buying anything, they still smiled and greeted me, knew I was from Vietnam, many Cuban people expressed a happy attitude and took off Open and ready to take memories with me.

Cuban people are very friendly with Vietnamese tourists

Cuba is the only country that uses two parallel currencies and exists in two different denominations. Money for visitors CUC (1 CUC is equivalent to 1 USD) and Peso CUP money consumers for local people.

The first day to Havana, hungry at noon and thirsty, I thought that I had Peso money so I lined up in front of the shop waiting for my turn. Local people know that I am a tourist, so I tried to explain, they said that in some stores, they only use CUP money, and the money CUC I hold in my right hand changes the word CUC to CUP! Next, they enthusiastically guided me to exchange money at a nearby location, helped me back to buy bread and spring water, to quench the thirst because Havana was hot like a fireplace.
