Although researchers believe the stone jars may have once been used to bury the dead, no one knows for sure what its original purpose was or anything about the people who were there. bring the stone jars there.

“They were previously known only by tiger hunters and now we have rediscovered them. The hope is to build a clear picture of the ancient culture in Laos and how the stone jars were used for burial ,” said Dr. Nicholas Skopal.

“But why these sites were chosen as the final resting places for the stone jars remains a mystery. On top of that, we have no evidence of occupation in this area ,” added archaeologist Dougald O’Reilly.

Australian National University researchers have unearthed a total of 137 stone jars, along with intricately carved plates surrounding them that are believed to have been used as burial marks. But some of these discs have been placed on top, which opens up more mysteries.

Also found alongside the stone jars were Iron Age artifacts such as decorative ceramics, glass beads, iron tools and other tools used to make clothes.

"Strangely, we also found many miniature jars, which look like giant jars but are made of clay ," O’Reilly said.

The archaeologists note that the discovery could lead to a greater understanding of what they believe to be the burial jars.

“We have seen similar giant jars in as‌sam in India and in Sulawesi in Indonesia, so we wanted to investigate possible prehistoric connections between these different regions. , " said other researchers.
