The shot of the bear was captured by a camera trap set by a film crew who was filming a movie about wildlife in Invernadeiro National Park, Ourense Province, Galicia.

Footage shows the brown bear can be seen searching for food, scratching his back and flee when he sees a bush showing signs of threats.

Zeitun Films, the film production company that recorded the brown bear image, said the bear was between three and five years old and it is likely that the first bear to pass through the area since 1870.

According to the rangers who consulted the filmmakers, the bear probably spent the entire winter in the area after going south from the Sierra de Caurel mountain range.

Despite the lack of bears in recent decades, Invernadeiro has been home to many wildlife species including wolves, deer, wild boars and otters.

Brown bears have been on the list of protected areas in Spain since 1973. However, this has not stopped local farmers in the Pyrenees from complaining about their presence. In 2018, a group of locals held a blockade in an attempt to stop a female bear from Slovenia. Finally, the female bear is released into the wild by the conservationists, who hope it will mate with the male bear in the area.
