At the beginning of the afternoon of July 8, a whale appeared and relaxed to search for prey at the area near the shore, the section between Ky Co and Eo Gio. A group of tourists on the way from Ky Co to the mainland were fortunate enough to capture the scene of this whale opening its mouth wide, then gently swimming and showing off its huge back.

Immediately the tourist community fluttered and planned to come to the sea during the summer vacation in the hope of luckily seeing whales.

Sharing with VTV3, Master Vu Long, Director of Center for Biodiversity Conservation and Endangered Species (CBES) said this could be a whale named Bryde’s whale Balaenoptera edeni, often called fish elephant gray back. When mature, they can reach size of 14m, weigh from 12-15 tons. Bryde Balaenoptera whales are distributed in the Western Pacific and Southeast Asia tropical regions.

It is not unusual for whales to appear in Vietnamese sea. The migratory route of many whales crosses the Vietnamese sea. The reason we find it difficult to meet because they are constantly moving, not settling in the Vietnamese sea area. Places that are easy to reach and close to whales must be where they stop to breed.

Previously, fishermen recorded whales swimming near the shore in our country. However, due to lack of control of fishing, it is increasingly rare. Recent fishermen and tourists filming, photographing whales at close distance show that there have been positive changes in the marine environment as well as the sense of protection of fish species.

Be aware that, some countries earn a lot of money from travel services related to whales and dolphins. For example, diving services with whale and whale sharks, searching and playing with dolphins on the sea, sailing watching whales playing, hunting ... If Vietnam knows how to preserve and preserve the sea then these services will be extremely attractive.

Reportedly, some of Vietnam’s tourist destinations are also seeking to develop tourism to see whales and dolphins. However, due to some conditions related to conservation, this segment is still in the research stage.
