It’s currently the target of NASA’s OSIRIS-REx mission, and now conspiracy theorists believe they know why the space agency is so interested in asteroid Bennu.

Scott C. Waring, who runs UFO Sightings Daily, claims to have spotted ‘ alien buildings’ in a NASA image of Bennu.

He said: “Have you ever wondered how NASA chose to explore a certain asteroid in space?

“Well, they chose according to those closest, slowest and with the most alien tech on it.”

Mr Waring claims to have spotted a range of structures on Bennu, including ‘buildings, towers, pyramids and even some abandoned ships.’

He added: “They have probably been abandoned on this asteroid for millions of years. Nevertheless they still exist and here are the close ups to prove it.”

However, not everyone is so convinced.

Speaking to Mirror Online, Nigel Watson, author of UFOs of the First World War, said: “Call me unimaginative and boring but all I see are rock structures.

“Even if alien technology or structures are there the pictures are not clear enough to indicate their presence.

“This is another case of wishful thinking by people who see extraterrestrials everywhere and believe NASA is hiding this ’evidence’ from us for their own nefarious purposes.”
