From messages such as “You’re not alone” to “The world is much better with you in it,” the heartfelt notes illustrate the teenager’s incredible empathy for vulnerable people suffering with mental health issues. According to the local Northumbria Police, Hunter’s inspirational notes have so far helped save the lives of six people.

Sadly, many people have di‌ed by suicide on Wearmouth Bridge, making it a “public safety problem.” Although Hunter can’t be there physically to help save lives, her notes are there to remind people that their lives matter. The caring teenager returned to the bridge last week, where Northumbria Police Chief Superintendent Sarah Pitt presented her with a framed commendation certificate to honor her selfless act. “We thought it was important to applaud the work Paige has been doing and the help she has given those in Sunderland who are going through a mental health crisis,” said Pitt. “It is important that we encourage people to speak out and raise awareness of mental health issues and the impact on people’s lives.”

The noble teenager said, “Since I put the messages up I’ve had a lot of comments from people. They’ve said it’s been really inspiring…I wasn’t doing this for an award; it was just something that I wanted to do.”

HERE’S WHAT SOME OF HER INSPIRATIONAL NOTES SAY:

  • “You’re not alone”
  • “Even though things are difficult, your life matters. You’re a shining light in a dark world just hold on.”
  • “The world is much better with you in it.”
  • “Asking for help is not a weakness.”
  • “It will get better. Please hold on.”
  • “Pause. Stop. Breathe. There are better options and so many people who love you.”
  • “This isn’t how it ends.”
  • “Don’t give up. Not now, not tomorrow, not ever.”
  •  “Hey you. Yeah, you. You’re beautiful and strong and amazing. Whatever you’re going through right now won’t destroy you. So just keep waiting and hold your head high. You can do this.”
  • “Some days are harder than others. It does get better.”
  • “Step back. You’re worth it!”
