The Brazilian Ministry of Health on 30/5 announced that the country on May 30 recorded 33,274 new Covid-19 cases, bringing the total number of infected people to 498,440. . This is a record increase in the South American country as Brazilian officials cannot currently estimate when the epidemic will peak.

One day after passing Spain to the fifth position in the list of countries with the most deaths because of Covid-19, Brazil continued to surpass France. Currently, Brazil ranks 4th in the list of deaths due to Covid-19, after the US, UK and Italy.

Brazil currently has 28,834 deaths due to the epidemic, an increase of 956 in the last 24 hours. In terms of case numbers, Brazil is currently the second largest epidemic region in the world, behind only the US.

Some states in Brazil are preparing to relax restrictions despite warnings from public health experts that the worst has yet to come.

Sao Paulo and Rio de Janeiro are the two most affected states in Brazil in terms of cases. However, experts are concerned about the epidemic situation in the poor states of the north and northeast. Shortages of medical equipment and overcrowded hospitals have put these localities at risk of "complete defeat" before the epidemic.

Meanwhile, experts warn that the actual number of infections in Brazil could be many times higher than the official number because the testing system is still limited.

In recent years, Brazil’s anti-epidemic efforts have not received a top-down consensus. While the governors and mayors issued restrictions on travel, President Jair Bolsonaro opposed social measures to ease social collapse due to economic collapse.
