On May 6, Sweden recorded 87 more deaths, bringing the number of deaths to 2,941. Meanwhile, the number of new infections increased by 702, bringing the total number of carriers to 23,918. Both deaths and deaths increased compared to 5/5.

Leading Swedish epidemiologist Anders Tegnell, the "architect" behind the country’s controversial anti-epidemic plan, said the European nation "was getting close to" 3,000 deaths, a number big awful ”.

Among the deaths, there was one child under the age of 10 who had been in an intensive care unit before dying, according to Aftonbladet newspaper . Mr Tegnell said the case was still under investigation and Sweden was unable to confirm whether the cause of death was due to Covid-19.

The epidemiologist says the risks to children are not too high and many people di‌e from the Covid-19 epidemic due to underlying medical conditions.

Sweden has been controversial recently with its "different from mass" strategy. They do not introduce tough blockade measures like those in Europe or neighboring countries, but lean toward an anti-epidemic approach with the belief in the "responsibilities of citizens" of the country.

They still allow schools to be open to students under the age of 16, cafes, restaurants and businesses operate normally while encouraging people to follow the rules of social spacing.

The number of deaths in Sweden is much higher than the countries in Northern Europe, where tougher disease control measures are applied.

According to Dailymail , Sweden’s mortality per million population is 291, 7 times higher than Norway (40), 3 times higher than Denmark (87) and 6 times Finland (45).

In the United States, the country with the highest number of deaths globally, the average number of deaths per million people is 219, according to Dailymail .

Last month, US President Donald Trump said that Sweden was "paying dearly" because of its different anti-Covid-19 strategy.

Swedish officials insisted that the anti-epidemic plan was sustainable and long-term, saying that measures that were too tough in the short term could have a major impact on society.

On May 5, the Swedish Civil Administration announced that a survey showed that most people in this country have changed their habits in accordance with state recommendations and strictly followed them.

“Nearly 9 in 10 (87%) of the respondents said they kept a greater distance from others in shops, restaurants and on public transport. This is up from 72% recorded last week, ”the notice said.
