China Daily newspaper quoted figures from the China Health Commission as saying that on February 26, the country had 29 more deaths from new strain of coronavirus (Covid-19), of which the center of Hubei accounted for 26 cases. This is the lowest number of deaths per day since Jan. 28, bringing the total number of deaths from the virus in mainland China to 2,744. 

The number of new infections across mainland China on February 26 increased by 433, of which, the Hubei epidemic accounted for 409, bringing the number of Covid-19 infections in China to approximately 78,500.

Around the world, the number of people dying from Covid-19 has increased to about 2,800, the number of infections also exceeds 80,000.

According to the World Health Organization (WHO), the peak in China occurred between January 23 and February 2 and since then new infections have tended to decrease. WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus said on February 26 that the number of corona virus infections in countries outside of China for the first time was greater than in the country, marking a major turning point of the epidemic on a global scale.

According to WHO, the number of new cases of coronavirus (Covid-19) in China on February 25 was 411, while the number of new infections in other countries was 427. Mr Tedros said the "unusual increase in cases" in countries such as Italy, South Korea and Iran was "worrisome".
