Lung buying, exhausted people, pork unprecedented price increases
The price of pork was pushed up by the enterprise to VND 58,000 / kg on October 6

After a long period of stability at 45,000-50,000 VND / kg, in the first few days of October, the price of live hog increased sharply, even increasing day by day.

On the morning of October 7, Dabaco Group officially listed the price of live hog to VND 59,000-60,000 / kg depending on the region. CP Group also adjusted the price of live hog in the North to 56,500 VND / kg.

Shortly before, CP Group announced that pig price on October 6 increased by VND 1,500-2,000 / kg depending on the region. In the North, CP price of live hog increased to 55,000 VND / kg, while the Southern region was adjusted to 50,000 VND / kg.

Similarly, in the morning of October 6, Dabaco Vietnam announced the selling price of live hogs in the North of 57,000 VND / kg, particularly in Tuyen Quang area, the price of farm opening reached 58,000 VND / kg.

Compared to June 5, this group’s live hog price increased by VND 2,000 / kg, with October 4 increasing by VND 4,000 / kg.

Leaders of this group are concerned that the company does not meet the needs and orders of pork traders and slaughterhouses. Because, the sales volume still has to follow the daily plan as well as only meet the needs of old customers, with new customers at this time still waiting and queuing.

In fact, so far the disease has covered 63 provinces and cities, "robbing" nearly 6 million pigs since Vietnam announced the first two African cholera outbreaks on February 19 in Hung Yen. and Thai Binh.

Meanwhile, large farms and small-scale animal husbandry households still do not dare to re-grow due to fears of an outbreak again, causing great damage. This makes the supply of pork is increasingly scarce. Not to mention, this time is the peak season for pork consumption, so the price increases sharply.

Livestock businesses forecast that in the coming days, the pig price will continue to rise sharply and soon reach the milestone of VND 60,000 / kg - an unprecedentedly high price. Notably, the price of pigs is forecasted to be difficult to reduce, will remain around VND 60,000 / kg before raising prices and setting new price ground.

Traders hunt and buy, people run out of pigs

In the afternoon of 6/10, exchanged with PV. VietNamNet, Mr. Le Hoang Quan, a trader specializing in buying pigs in Viet Tri area (Phu Tho), admits that about a week now the price of pigs increases every day and there is no sign of stopping.

"The prices soared, but pigs were not as easy to buy as before." Mr. Quan said and said that a month ago, buying pigs was still quite easy. However, this week, collection was much more difficult, especially for small slaughterhouses.

He said, before he could buy a few at a time, now he did not buy it individually, the camp did not agree to sell. Small slaughterhouses had to be bought in bulk and accepted to buy at a higher price than the company. For example, on October 6, the company price is 58,000 VND / kg, small traders like him have to accept to buy pigs for sale at the price of 59,000 VND / kg.

“The source of pigs in the farming households has been exhausted. Traders like me have to hunt all over the area, deposit money to buy the whole flock but the farms still refuse to sell, afraid of pits because the price of pigs is increasing day by day, ”he shared.

Pork at the market is also increasing sharply due to the tight supply

Recorded in the market in Hanoi, these days pork prices tend to rise sharply. Specifically, at Dai Tu market, the prices of as‌sorted meat, shoulder, bacon, and pork feet are adjusted to increase to 95,000-100,000 VND / kg, lean loin 110,000 VND / kg, pork ribs cost 115,000 VND / kg, ...

Ms. Nguyen Thi Nga - a small merchant selling meat at Dai Tu market, said that because the price at the wholesale market increased sharply, the pork at the people’s market was also increased by small traders.

"In the fall, the demand for pork increased sharply because it was cool, but the supply at the wholesale market on this occasion seems scarce." Ms. Nga said that, taking meat is quite easy in the summer, now it takes only half an hour to go to the wholesale market to stop selling delicious meat and even sell out.

Meanwhile, Ms. Dao Thi Nhan, owner of a sausage making establishment in Thuong Tin (Hanoi), also commented that pork prices are rising sharply. Her family makes sausages made primarily of butt meat. Today, at the wholesale market, the price of this item has increased by about 10,0000 VND / kg.

The price was much higher, Nhan could not collect all the meat she needed to buy.

“In the past, I bought about 3 quintals of butt meat to make goods. The clues in the market they also carry to their home. Now it is different, I have to go to the wholesale market to collect and compete for about 2 quintals to buy, some days less, ”she shared.

Market research firm Ipsos Business Consulting estimates that the size of the sow population in the country has decreased by about 30% over the same period, of which smallholders are the most affected by swine cholera. Rabobank also forecasts that 2019 pig production in Vietnam may decrease by 15-19% over the same period.

Ipsos estimates that Vietnam may have a shortage of 500,000 tons of meat before the Lunar New Year due to a lack of supply recovery.

Earlier, in exchange with the press, Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Phung Duc Tien admitted that the domestic market also had forecasts that pig prices would rise, even very high in the coming time, to be completely grounded. Because of the supply of pigs in Vietnam and neighboring countries, especially the pigs from China fell sharply due to the impact of African swine cholera.

According to Mr. Tien, there is still no basis to concretize the lack of pork in the coming Tet holiday. However, from practice, the price of pork is expected to increase to 55,000-60,000 VND / kg in the last months of the year.
