Indian police are investigating the case of a group of people, including teachers, attending a superstitious ceremony in the town of Udalguri, eastern assam state.
According to PTI news agency, the incident happened on June 6,7 at the home of science teacher Jadab Saharia in Ganakpara village. After being reported by the villagers about a 3-year-old sacrifice, the local police immediately went to the scene to check.
When they arrived, the police saw smoke rising up in the house, many people inside took off their clothes to celebrate and the 3-year-old was placed on the altar.
Despite the villagers’ persuasion, the insiders continue to worship and threaten to attack with axes and knives.
When the police intervened, these people threw stones and many objects in response and burned everything in the house from cars to televisions, refrigerators.
The tension escalated to the climax when the priest swung his long sword up to chop the baby’s head . Immediately, the police opened fire to prevent this terrible ritual from happening and arresting the people involved. Mr. Saharia and his son were injured and the baby was rescued.
According to witnesses, the baby is Saharia’s niece, agreed to "sacrifice" by her parents and the ceremony will be performed in the presence of her mother.
The villagers also said that he saw that he was invited to do the ritual to donate the body to "relieve" the landlord because three years ago a girl committed suicide in the house. Authorities do not comment on this information but are investigating the case.
