Researchers at Mimecast Services Ltd., an online security company. (Australia) has discovered a vulnerability in Microsoft Excel, potentially causing more than 120 million users at risk.
According to experts, this vulnerability is in the Power Query function, allowing users to extract data from other sources. Hackers can take advantage of this vulnerability to start a remote attack via Dynamic Data Exchange (DDE) - a data sharing system between Windows applications.
In addition, the vulnerability of security could also pave the way for more sophisticated attack, involving malicious software spoil the user’s device, when opening the spreadsheet Excel directly on the computer.
