Scientists have published in an American scientific journal, estimated that by the end of the 21st century, the ocean will lose nearly 20% of marine life due to climate change.
According to the study, if the Earth’s temperature increased by 3 - 4oC compared to pre-industrial times, 17% of marine organisms, from tiny plankton to whales weighing 100 tons, will disappear. Even in the "best" scenario is that the world limits the global temperature rise below 2oC according to the Paris Agreement on climate change, the number of marine organisms is still reduced by 5%.
The study results also show that, if the Earth temperature increases by 1oC, the number of marine organisms will decrease by 5%. According to the study, in tropical regions, the number of marine organisms will decrease by 40-50% due to climate change.
